The journey of this painting began with coming to know a dear couple who faced a challenging uncertainty due to a difficult diagnosis. While living on Oahu, one place offering them the comfort of the earth, sea, and sky was beautiful Kaʻena Point. Hawaiians believe this area to be ‘a leaping place of souls’—a site where spirits are said to pass into the next realm. This work is a tribute; a quiet offering to a couple who have bravely faced a spiritual and physical mountain. It’s also an homage to the spiritual presence that lives within the land.
